TITLE

The Sooke Schools home stay program places visiting students into supportive, stable homes with active Canadian families who are committed to offering students the support that they require. Home stays are arranged and supervised by the Sooke Schools International Program office.

The support of the home stay family enables students to focus on their academic studies, knowing that their domestic needs are being met. Victoria’s Sooke Schools home stay experience offers students insight into the Canadian way of life and opportunities to improve English language skills.

• All Sooke Schools home stay families are English language first settings.
• Host families are screened and are carefully informed about the arriving student’s goals and interests.
• Host families receive training and are supported and supervised by our own homestay program manager.
• Placement is determined by the profile information provided in the student’s application form, home stay availability and school placement.
• Host family members welcome arriving students at the Victoria International Airport or ferry terminal at the beginning of their stay
• Host families provide the student with a private room and three meals a day.
• Students are encouraged to participate in all family activities.
• Students can practice their English skills in a relaxing and supportive environment.
• Support is also available in German, Mandarin, French, Korean, Spanish, and Japanese.

Each home stay family is carefully screened by our program staff to ensure it meets our expectations and high standards for hosting young people from around the world. Host families receive training and are supported and supervised by our own homestay program manager.
